This week, we’re untangling one of the High Country’s most familiar names, sharing a tucked-away new addition to BooneHomesForSale.com and offering three wildly different weekend plans involving lawn chairs, fairy wings or beer.
In other words, a fairly normal August week in Boone. 😄

Blowing Rock is one of those places buyers often put at the top of their list before they know much about its real estate.
They’ve walked Main Street, driven the Blue Ridge Parkway, admired the flowers and decided: Yes. This is the one.
Then they open the listings and discover that “Blowing Rock” covers much more ground than the downtown they remember.
One home may be genuinely walkable to shops and restaurants. Another may be a five-minute drive away. A third may have a Blowing Rock mailing address but sit well outside the town limits.
And then there are communities like SweetGrass, where you can feel tucked into the woods beside a mountain lake and trails—while still being roughly six miles, or about 15 minutes, from downtown.
This is why “close to downtown” is one of the slipperiest phrases in mountain real estate. A mile on a map may include a steep hill, a narrow road and absolutely no sidewalk. Close? Yes. Walking home after dinner? Perhaps not. 😂

We just added a full guide to SweetGrass, a gated Blowing Rock community built around a 22-acre lake, Boone Fork Creek, wooded trails and the community Lake House.
It feels surprisingly secluded once you’re inside—but downtown Blowing Rock is still only about a 15-minute drive away. It’s an interesting option for buyers who want their mountain home to feel like a genuine getaway without requiring provisions and a search party every time they want to go to dinner.

This Weekend in the High Country
Apparently, we’re ending August with three possible dress codes: bring a lawn chair, wear fairy wings or locate your designated driver.
One Last Concert on the Lawn — Friday, August 28
The Jones House wraps up its free summer concert series at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Boone. Bring a chair or blanket, pack a picnic and enjoy one more Friday evening on the lawn before summer begins slipping away.

Fairy Day in the Gardens — Saturday, August 29
Daniel Boone Native Gardens will fill with music, dancing, crafts, fairy hair, costumes and other woodland mischief from 1–5 p.m. Children 17 and younger are free; adults are $5—and yes, adults are encouraged to dress up too.
High Country Beer Fest — Saturday, August 29
More than 40 breweries will gather at the High Country Fairgrounds from 2–7 p.m. General admission is $50, and shuttles will run from App State’s Peacock parking lot. Definitely make the transportation plan before beginning the “educational sampling.”
