Banner Elk sits between Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, but its appeal goes well beyond ski season.

31st Annual Blue Ridge Mountain Heritage Festival — Saturday, September 19

Downtown Sparta hosts the annual Blue Ridge Mountain Heritage Festival from 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with Appalachian arts and crafts, food, traditional music, bluegrass and folk dancing along Main Street.

Live Music at Banner Elk Winery — Friday through Sunday

Banner Elk Winery has live music throughout the weekend:

Friday: Gary McCullough, 1–5 p.m.
Saturday: Tom Pillion, 1–5 p.m.
Sunday: Jace Smith, 1–5 p.m.
